Wolverines' Sugar Bowl MVP: Replay Official

Breaking with tradition, the University of Michigan Wolverines football team gave its Sugar Bowl Most Valuable Player award to the replay official who ruled that a Virginia Tech touchdown in overtime was actually an incomplete pass.

At the same time, the play instantly restored thousands of Michigan fans' faith in referees -- a group most Wolverine enthusiasts routinely blame for anything that goes wrong.

"We're making him an honorary Michigan Man," Coach Brady Hoke said of the replay official. "We couldn't have gotten a better call if we were in Ann Arbor."

In the bedlam after the game ended, Wolverine players frantically searched for the official in order to carry him off the field on their shoulders, but were ultimately unsuccessful. Sources said the official, whose name was being withheld for security purposes, had been moved to an undisclosed location for his own safety.
